The End of Free

A site that chronicles previously free websites which have become pay services via premiums, subscriptions, etc. May be a good resource for webcomickers looking to see what works and what doesn't.

Modern Evil accepting comics submissions

Modern Evil is currently accepting submissions for comics. (Direct Link to article on submissions)

In the past, while Modern Evil has been proud to be home to the writings of other people (blogs, Poetry, Fiction, Reviews, etc...), it has only ever hosted comics by its co-founders Iain Hamp and Teel McClanahan III. Beginning in September, this is going to change. This means free hosting at Modern Evil for comics selected, and potentially some income for creators as Modern Evil also launches its new "Premium" section of exclusive material in September, available for pennies via BitPass.

!Soy Grande!

You cannot buy those little Frappucinos here, and the nearest Starbucks is an hour's walk away, and I do not have a car. So I am experimenting, due to Personal Health Wossname (insulin resistance, a suspected developing lactose intolerance, and stuff).

Recent efforts at tweaking the Top Secret Recipes model have resulted in a pleasant buzzy thing based on cow's milk -- 1/2 UK pint each double strength coffee/milk, 1/3 cup Splenda, 1tsp cocoa. But milk is milk and that's not a good thing. So now I'm about to try soy.

It's sweetened soy milk.

Can't bloody well *win*.

Shaenon Garrity Seeks FC/IC Artist

From the Talkaboutcomics forums:

Good afternoon. I'm Shaenon Garrity, webcartoonist and Modern Tales goodwill ambassador. I write and draw "Narbonic" on Moderntales.com, I write "Li'l Mell" on Girlamatic.com, I sporadically write "Trunktown" on Serializer.net, and I am always right.

I come to you today because I wish to submit a comic to Graphic Smash, an upcoming Modern Tales sister site devoted to action/adventure comics, and I need an artist.

Purchase Circle Weave Preview Art Through BitPass Micropayments

Starting this week, anxious readers can purchase access to a new desktop picture featuring the artwork to the upcoming fourth chapter of The Circle Weave. The artwork for the new cover features a mysteriously glowing image of Rowan, sword raised in preparation for battle. Behind him can be seen the image of a large, tangled mass emerging from the misty wood.

The new picture is available at http://www.circleweave.com/bricabrac/desktops.shtml, but unlike the other desktop pictures there, this one is not available for free. Series creator Indigo Kelleigh has chosen to make the download for each individual screen resolution available for the cost of a five-cent 'donation', made possible thanks to the new micropayment solution called BitPass (http://www.bitpass.com).

Creature Feature Comics opens a bone chilling "FOSTER HOME"

Sequential Tart columnist/reviewer Barb Lien Cooper joins Creature Feature Comics (www.creature-features.com), along with her husband and Silver Bullet Comics columnist Park Cooper, with the creation of three stand alone tales of terror. One such tale is "FOSTER HOME".

Set in turn of the century Texas, "Foster Home" is a story about a clever old woman who agrees to take custody of an orphaned baby who's mother went insane under very mysterious circumstances. With the arrival of her new bundle of joy, the old woman quickly finds out that madness is just the brink of insanity.
