Drupal? Joomla? Stone knives and bear skins!?

Ok, I'm developing a new website (more on that later) and am looking at Drupal. It's making my eyes cross. I was told about Joomla, but I haven't had time to fully investigate it yet. Here's what I really want:
A small, site-specific gallery with the capacity for individual accounts and the potential for marketing of artwork from said accounts. I'm not talking about anything for use by the public, just a small, select group of people.

So, I’ve been invited to guest blog by Xaviar, and now that the time draws nigh, it occurred to me that I had better figure out how the Comixpedia blog-thing actually works.  So far, so good. Anyway, in order to make this entry more than simply an example of my own rambling, interweb ineptitude, I will instead, make an announcement regarding my series:
