Atland #258 - Avalanche of the Dead

OK, the first person who correctly counts ALL the skeletons in this episode wins a...

...just kidding. If I did that, it would mean *I* would have to count them -- and there's no way I'm gonna do that. But rest assured, I did not cut corners on this episode. I drew skeletons until my eyes felt like they were going to bleed. Here's a zoomed-in view:

And I tweaked the coloring on this episode for 2 weeks. In fact, I was still adding background skeletons yesterday. Ugh.

I think it came out pretty cool, though.

Atland #257 - He's Coming Apart

I tell ya, I thought long and hard about how the Nameless One could make a dramatic exit. And I came up with zilch until the very MORNING I sat down to draw this one. It finally hit me...what would be cooler than an avalanche of corpses?

Not too damn much, that's what.

I gotta say, I'm sooooooo looking forward to drawing sexy ladies and trees again in Season 2. No more snow scenes or cave scenes for a while once we're done here.

Atland #256 - Help Me...

Thus exits the Demon Sissyl. And good riddance! Just think, this is what might have happened to Lily if things had gone differently… ::shivers::

Normally, I would have put Sissyl’s final dialogue in a word balloon…but somehow the white on black, floating text seemed to feel so much more like…a VOID, a place where even her voice is obliterated. One of those moments where a stylistic change just felt right.

HappY Birthday

Happy 40th birthday, Chuck, you old geezer!

Atland #255 - Welcoming Committee

The story behind this episode is that I was too sick to finish it myself. A couple of weeks ago I got food poisoned at a little coffee shop. Apparently their creamer was...shall we say...less than fresh. I spent the next few days in abdominal agony. There was just no way I was going to be able to color this episode with everything else on my plate (if you'll excuse the joke)...so I called in the amazing Jason Embury. Long time web-buddy and colorist extraordinaire. I had already hired Jason to color some episodes of ATLAND Season 2 for me, so it was only natural that I enlist his help for this episode.

Atland #254 - A Third Option

We learned a few things about Inky here that I've never told you guys. Inky doesn't like to talk about his past, but he's trying to properly address a nearly omnipotent being... We learned his dad's name, that he was a member of the Desert Glass Thieves' Guild...and that he's from Naen (you can go find it on the map). We already knew he was a former spy for the dwarves...that's how he knew Nodd.

So I asked myself... why wouldn't Inky & Barry plan to stab the Nameless One with the Demonbreaker? A couple of reasons:

Atland #253 - KNEEL

So there it is: Sissyl's true form. Adorable, huh?

I figure the lesser demons in ATLAND look more literally like "demons". The 13 Greater Demons are nearly omnipotent, and so can look like whatever they want.

Atland #252 - The Avatar, Pt. 2

If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that you can’t count on a demon. It’s amazing that the agreement between the Nameless One and the priestesses of Ria has lasted as long as it has – but then again, what’s a few hundred centuries to a greater demon.

Atland #251 - The Avatar, Pt. 1

I gotta say…it felt good to not have to draw snow after so many winter wilderness scenes. (In fact, it may never snow in ATLAND again after this story…)

Atland #250 - Finishing the Job

250 episodes!!!! Woo hoo!

There was no clean and easy way to do this. The fact is, Barry and Inky have to get moving if they want to save Lily. I didn't want them to seem uncaring, but they've already lost one friend...they don't want to lose another.
