I really like the 'shrinky-dinks' look of the b&w section. Does that work as well in color?

Yeah, it does. That's all procedural shading in Flash 8. I literally hit two buttons and it does that for me on the characters.
The only thing it doesn't do is output that beautiful faded stuff to files above 72 DPI. At least, I haven't figured out how to get.

I don't know how the per-pixel operations work in Flash, but zooming in, it's pixelated already.
