Toon Mailing lists: Yay or nay?
Submitted by bobweiner on January 9, 2006 - 07:34
I wanted to start a discussion on the subject of toon mailers - whereby readers of your strip can receive your comic in their e-mail whenever you update. How many cartoonists here have them? Any interesting trends you'd like to share? If you haven't set one up - are you planning to? Why? Why not?
As for me, I find that having a 'toon mailer' really does help, given the nature of my comics (nearly all are stand-alone one panel gags). Over the last two years, the number of people on my mailing list have grown considerably, and with the last few months I've branched into RSS feeds. Both the RSS feeds and mailing list tend to compliment one another.
Thoughts appreciated!

Personally I rarely (very rarely) sign up for emaillists of any kind. I get enough mail as it is. RSS feed on the other hand I gladly add.

I've recently set up an RSS feed for my site (http://www.digi-comic.com/digi-comic.xml) ... RSS feeds seem to really lend themselves to the webcomic medium.
Great for checking if you've missed any updates!

Cool, sparg. I've added your site to my list of RSS feeds! I tend to prefer RSS over emails as well, but a lot of my readers, I assume, have never heard of RSS - which is why readers keep signing up for the Toon Mailer.

Cheers Krishna - PCW also resides in my firefox live bookmarks section!
I can see not everyone going for RSS - my parents for example would have no idea what it even stands for, let alone what it does.
