HOMESTAAAAAAAARRRRR!

Adding to the post, I'm wondering how the creators of Homestar Runner got income, and how we webcomickers can adopt their business model?

If Jim Davis can be rich off Garfield, how come these guys aren't driving ferraris yet?

In all seriousness, glad they are getting more and more noticed. Their stuff is funny as hell.

he reason the Chapman brothers aren't in ferraris is because unlike Jim Davis, they're not talentless sell-outs.

And, although, I love Homestar as much as the next good American, I gotta get this off my chest. Remember the uhh Webcartoonist Choice Awards, and Homestar Runnah won for Best Use of Flash I believe? Was I the only one bothered by this? Now Homestar is one of the best uses of flash ever, but... it shouldn't have won, because, it didn't need to win.... The Homestar peoples aren't really members of webcomics community (i.e. comixpedia talk about comics keenspace whathave you), they don't link to anyone else (not that that's a bad thing.) They are probably beyond nearly every webcomic in popularity. They didn't need the recognition, nor in all likely, gain any recognition from the award, and, I would guess, probably didn't really care (or know?) that they won.

Woo. That's been bugging me ever since those awards got announced. Like, four months ago. Anyway, that's what I think.

First off Jim Davis has talent, regardless of your personal opinion he turned a bunch of cliche ideas into a multimilliondollar empire. And while the man doesn't draw his own strips anymore when he did and was at his prime he was a far better artist then many people you can find online.... talentless... no... sell-out.. no, he made Garfield to make money, that was his intention from the get go.

So what you're saying is that people who don't need the recognition shouldn't be in the running... so why aren't you saying anything about Penny Arcade, or The Morning Improv(Scott McCloud will do fine without anymore recognition), Real Life, Mac Hall, hell Count Your Sheep cleaned up! What about Elf Only Inn? I HATE that strip(I'm kiddin ya Sorty)

I know what you mean Mike, it feels unfair when a big wig comes in and whoops the crap out of everyone. And yea, Homestar isn't exactly a comic, BUT, it was was nominated BY COMIC CREATORS and voted for BY COMIC CREATORS.... all I can say is tough crap for the rest of us. My comic comes out in about 1.5 months, I'm doing a Flash comic so I don't have a hope in hell of winning. I'm not bitter because that's just the way things work, the awards are a popularity contest, I won't be able to win anything until I can beat people who are years ahead of me.

According to the brothers in their FAQ section, they make all their homestar money via t-shirt sales and merchandise. So as usual, there's no magic secret, they just have enough readers to sell a lucrative amount of t-shirts and such.

Homestar Runner is great.

It isn't a comic.

You're right, I shouldn't have said readers. "Viewers" is what I really meant.
