Athena Voltaire the critically-acclaimed webcomic by Paul Daly, Steve Bryant and Chad Fidler, is launching its first-ever contest.
The rules are simple:
1) Visit the brand-new online Athena Voltaire store
2) Buy any of the available Athena Voltaire shirts
3) Send a photo of yourself at the San Diego Comic-con or Wizard World Chicago in that T-shirt, as well as your name, address, and email address, to the AV creative team (steve@diversehands.com). All entries must be received by August 31, 2004. All photos received will be posted on the Athena Voltaire message board, as well as the official contest page.
4) All entrants will receive exclusive AV merchandise
5) One winner, drawn at random, will receive a piece of Athena Voltaire original art (created specifically for this contest) by series penciller/inker Steve Bryant. To view the artwork, visit the official contest page.
Enter as many times as you like. For every photo of you in a different AV shirt, you’re entered. Going to San Diego and Chicago? Buy four shirts, wear them to all four days at the SDCC and then wear 3 of those to Wizard World Chicago: that’s 7 entries! Just make sure that we can tell which convention you’re at (entrances to the convention centers are great places for photos).
“It’s not really about making a lot of money,” Bryant says. “Since the shirts are print-on-demand, there’s not much of a markup at all. We’re more interested in promoting the comic and rewarding the readers who help us do so.”
Set in the 1930's, Athena Voltaire chronicles the globetrotting adventures of its titular heroine as she faces nazis, the occult and fantastic creatures.
The comic has generated considerable buzz, garnering positive reviews from industry pros. Tim (Punisher, Hellblazer) Bradstreet describes Athena Voltaire as "rollicking high adventure," while Mark (Xenozoic Tales, Superman: Man Of Steel) Schultz calls it "fun and compelling" with "stylish storytelling and gorgeous rendering."
Athena Voltaire is published on the web by Modern Tales and is currently nominated for a Cartoonist’s Choice Award.
Bryant will be at the Law Dog Studios booth the San Diego Comic-Con to promote the series. Bryant and Fidler will be at the official Athena Voltaire Booth in Artists' Alley at Wizard World Chicago promoting it, as well.
