A couple of Platinum-related odds n' ends today:
DJ Coffman gets a CEASE AND DESIST letter from Platinum regarding the herobynight.net and ,org URLs that apparently Coffman personally owns. Lots more in Coffman's post on his post-Platinum thoughts on Platinum including this key bit:
So yeah, that boggles my mind. 24k? Brian just passes me off as any creator who would complain to a publisher about not enough promotion. But the guy’s problem is, and he admitted this to me is, he just doesn’t KNOW comics. For all intents and purposes, and not a surprise to many, Platinum isn’t in the comic BOOK business.

Re: Platinum isn't in the comic BOOK business
The Tom Spurgeon link is not working for me. I get a database error when I click on it.
Re: Platinum isn't in the comic BOOK business
It was probably the site having issues - the link is working for me right now.
Alternatively you could just go to the main URL: http://www.comicsreporter.com/
Re: Platinum isn't in the comic BOOK business
Thanks for the alternate link. The original seems to be back.
Interesting reading given that Platinum is supposed to be taking over wowio. Very interesting that we are in the second half of July and the site has not come back. Really interesting considering that the site promises a mid-July return. (I have not visited wowio in over a week, so things may be somewhat different.)
Re: Platinum isn't in the comic BOOK business
Wowio.com still has it's "coming back soon" splash page up...
Re: Platinum isn't in the comic BOOK business
Scott of Dreamland Chronicles just reported a conversation with Wowio's president. The gist is that they should be back in a week or so, that people won't need credit cards or driving licenses to register anymore and that they'll be open to non-US readers. It's not an official announcement, but it sounds hopeful.
Re: Platinum isn't in the comic BOOK business
Well that was interesting but pretty vague still.
Anyone remember this interview by the Journal of the Lincoln Heights Literary Society with Wowio's president, William Lidwell (from February). Is a Platinum-Wowio deal going to convert Wowio to all comics? (Lidwell says it's 50/50 before). How are they going to address cheating if they no longer have the driver's license/credit card requirement for accounts there?

Good question, but if they show it can work I imagine that would be good news for a lot of web-content creators, comic and otherwise.
